The second Sunday in August 1993, Bishop James H. Morton and over 800 followers of Jesus Christ answered God's call to rise up and go to worship and to serve the Lord in the Decatur High School Gymnasium.

Immediately following church school (which consisted of 18 classes) the gymnasium was transformed into a sanctuary accommodating over 1200 worshippers each Sunday. By the grace of God, through the man of God, over 225 souls were added to the church.

Following the vision and leadership of our pastor, we began negotiations to purchase the 1.9 million dollar Forest Hills Church and Education Complex. Many skeptics in the community doubted that a group of people worshipping just a few months in a gymnasium could acquire this valuable real estate. Step by step we marched on with God's guidance and the leadership of Pastor Morton, Deacons' Ministry Chairman, Trustee Ministry Chairperson and the Building Fund Ministry Chairperson. In the love, peace and unity empowered by the Holy Ghost the entire congregation marched by faith not by sight on to victory.

Despite the fiery darts of Satan, God's church did not falter or fail, for it was founded upon Jesus Christ. This church was founded upon the Rock that would be known as the New Beginning Full Gospel Baptist Church.

Not by might or power of men but by the Spirit of the Lord of Hosts, New Beginning Full Gospel Baptist Church marched into our church complex on Sunday, June 5, 1994! We entered into His gates with thanksgiving and into His courts with praise; we are thankful unto Him and bless His name. For the Lord is good! His mercy is everlasting and His truth endureth to all generations. Let everything that hath breath praise the Lord! Under the strong leadership and guidance of Pastor James H. Morton and with much prayer, New Beginning continues to grow and prosper.

In the spring of 1996, God gave our Bishop a vision concerning the renovation of the sanctuary. Through the divine will of God we are now seated in a beautifully refurbished 2300 seat edifice as a reminder of and a memorial to God's awesome power.
